Special Educational Needs
We welcome pupils with special educational needs and work hard to ensure that these needs are met. Mrs Bennington is the Special Educational Needs and Disability Coordinator (SENCo) for the whole school and policies are in place for SEND.
Some pupils permanently or from time to time have significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of their age group. We give these pupils special consideration and provide relevant support for them. Very occasionally an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) of special educational needs may be sought for your child. This is a process supported by the Local Authority. At all stages of the process you as parents will be kept informed and involved in decision making regarding the most suitable next steps for your child.
We strongly believe in inclusion of all pupils and have a Focus Provision to support pupils with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We have strong links with Sandwell’s Inclusion Support Team who can help with Learning and Social and Emotional difficulties. We have our own Speech and Language Therapist to support your child if they have any speech difficulties or we can point you in the right direction to refer them to the National Health Service Speech Therapists if we feel that is best. We have connections with a range of agencies to deal with other concerns as and when they occur.
If you have any concerns about your child’s learning or progress, please speak to the class teacher or the SENDCo. Parental support and advice can also be found at SENDIAS (Support for parents of children with a Special Educational Need) on 0121 555 1821.
